From First Steps to First Dance: Your Questions Answered
Where are Now & Then Dance Studios located?
We have three locations serving Maryland and Northern Virginia: Silver Spring, MD (10407 Georgia Ave), Rockville/North Potomac, MD (10111 Darnestown Rd), and Fairfax, VA (8704 Lee Hwy). Students can visit any of our studios for group classes and social dance parties.
How long has Now & Then Dance Studios been teaching?
We opened our first studio in Silver Spring in 1978. For more than four decades we’ve grown mostly through word of mouth from happy students, and we now have three locations across the DC metro area.
I’ve never danced before. Can I still learn?
Absolutely. Most of our students start with no dance experience at all. If you want to learn, we can teach you. Our instructors break every step down so it feels natural, and you’ll be surprised how quickly you’re dancing.
Do I need a partner to take lessons?
No. You’re welcome to come on your own or with a partner. Singles learn and practice with our instructors and dance with other students at group classes and parties. Couples can learn together.
How do I get started?
Call us at 301.424.0007 to book your free trial lesson. It includes a consultation where one of our trained professionals learns about your goals, followed by a sample lesson so you can see what dancing with us is like.
What happens during the free trial lesson?
Your instructor talks with you about what you want to get out of dancing, whether that’s a wedding dance, a new hobby, or confidence on the dance floor. Then they teach you a sample lesson. Afterward, they’ll walk you through our programs and help you choose the one that fits you best.
What dance styles do you teach?
How are your dance programs structured?
Every program combines three parts that work together: private lessons, group classes, and supervised practice parties. Private lessons give you one-on-one attention, group classes reinforce what you’ve learned, and parties let you put it all into practice.
What is covered in a private dance lesson?
Private lessons focus on you. Your instructor works on the areas that benefit most from individual attention, such as leading and following, technique, styling, and timing, so you progress faster and with more confidence.
What are group dance classes like?
In group classes, one instructor teaches several students new patterns and how to dance to different music. Classes are organized by level, from Bronze through Silver and Gold, and typically pair two dance styles per session. They usually run on weekday evenings at all three locations.
What happens at your dance parties?
Our social dance parties recreate a nightclub atmosphere, with music for the dances you’re learning and a large floating dance floor. You can dance with instructors, other students, or just your own partner. They’re a relaxed, fun way to practice and meet other dancers.
Do you offer wedding dance lessons?
Yes. We help couples prepare for their first dance and other special dances at the reception. We can help you pick a song, choreograph moves that fit it, and plan which dances to share with different members of your wedding party.
When should we start wedding dance lessons?
The earlier the better. Starting a few months before your wedding gives you time to learn your routine, practice comfortably, and feel confident on the big day without last-minute stress. Book your free consultation and we’ll recommend a plan that fits your timeline.
How much do dance lessons cost?
Pricing depends on the program that fits your goals, so we go over options in person after your free trial lesson. That way, you only pay for what you need. Call 301.424.0007 for more information.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes. Dance lesson gift certificates make a great gift for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and engaged couples. Each gift certificate also includes a free lesson for the recipient.
